Javen, how have you been and what have you been up to lately? I have been doing great. Well first lets see, I was in an independent film earlier part of the year in which I played a detective. Then I began work on my new CD "Keeping the Faith" which is due out in stores nationwide September 30th! So everybody go out and help me make it in the top ten! I have been on the road non-stop so with being on the road and the studio that pretty much has consumed a lot of my time.
My first interview with you was back in 2002 when you released your album, "Changed" which still is one of my favorite album of yours. How has your life changed since that album? Man where do I start. I was on my way to LA at the time which is now where I am based. I shot the feature film "One Night with the King" over in India for several months which allowed me to experience a whole new level in the theatrical side of business. I've gotten several awards, a host of TV appearances, and I even hosted my own radio show for a year called "Life" on the Urban Network Station. I could go on but I think that's enough for now.
It's great to know that you are still making great music, how does the new album differs from your previous work? I think "Keeping the Faith" shows the real me and the true fusion of great music that I represent. This CD is the first of many of it's kind for me because it's a universal sound. This CD is more Christian CCM with a taste of urban as oppose to Gospel/R&B. Also what's different about "Keeping the Faith" is that it's not a straight up worship CD but it's not an artist project either. It's kind of a mixer of both so you'll be able to worship on some tracks and work out on others.
Who are the producers on the new album? I pretty much went with friends of mine that are in the business. My writing partner for years who produced most of this album David Garcia, my friend and song writer Travon Potts, along with a good buddy of mine out of Nashville, TN his name is James Matchack.
Last year you won an En Sound Music Award, how did it feel to have won? I felt honored. You know with the exception of my recent signing to Tribe/Universal Music I have been an Independent Artist for almost 5 years going strong! To God be the glory but to have an added honor of not only being nominated but winning the En Sound Award just blew me away. I think my story is one that will be an encouragement to many out there in the music business trying to make it.
You are also an actor, tell me about that...how did you get started in acting? Yes I did some classes back in college and then picked it back up once I re-located out to LA. It's been a new love for me and one that I am excited about and hope to do a lot more of.
Are you planning on coming to the New York area anytime soon? I definitely am planning on coming to NY when I don't know yet. But I have always had a love for the upper east coast. So who knows somebody book me over there so I can come. lol
Finally Javen, what words of inspiration can you leave with our readers? That God is faithful and just so no matter what situation you might find yourself know that He can get you through it. I am a strong believer that every situation is just an opportunity for God to be glorified. See the glory in each moment of your life. |
