I first heard the music of Jamaican born and UK resident, Winston Blake aka King Arthur for the very first time back in 2008, and liked what I heard that very first time. This young man’s way with words and undoubtedly among some of the best I have ever heard. When you mention the names, Papa San, Stitchie, DJ Nicholas etc…the name King Arthur ought to be on that list as he’s one of the most skillful among his peers. I recently had the pleasure of conducting this interview with him where we talked in depth about his brand new project…
Tell us all who is King Arthur?
King Arthur: I am a child of the Most High God called to deliver my brand of music which is Reggae/Caribbean to this dark and dying world, thus winning souls into the kingdom of God.
Now, let’s talk about the new project and all the good stuff.
The brand new album is called, “Unfolding the Truth”. This title is self explanatory and highlights some of the things you and I had talked about before such as things happening in our society and in the Church. My first album was called “Preparation Time”, my second was “Unmovable” and now I am here “Unfolding the Truth” to the people. This album consists of twenty tracks because the truth cannot be unfolded in the shortened form.
Where did you find the time to record twenty tracks?
Well, you know, I had a hard time selecting which songs to go on this project because I had so many, but these are the ones the Lord allowed me to share with the listeners, so I am just giving Him thanks for allowing me to complete it. Also on this album, is a song with my 5 year old daughter Sachiel Blake who I want to start out in the ministry very early.
I met you for the first time at a concert in Patterson, New Jersey last year, and felt like I know you forever as you are such a humble person. How do you manage to stay humble with all of the attention that you have been getting lately?
First of all Delroy, when you are a minister of the Gospel in spoken words or in music, you should never become so unapproachable and act like you are a celebrity and you own the ground on which you trod. I realize how blessed I am to be doing what I do and is honored by it all. I cannot walk around thinking that "I AM" because only GOD IS. I am just the vessel that He is using to reach and change the hearts of people, and if I cannot reach down to where they are to touch their hearts, then my ministry is all in vain…being humble is all I know how to be.
I know for a fact that your album is consistent when it comes to your message and the way you line up your titles, what are some of the songs on this new album?
Some of the songs include: Receive it, My God Can Do It, Wash and Be Clean, Take Them and many others that will bless your heart.
King Arthur, You have a way of ministering that keeps the people on their feet whether or not they understand the Jamaican dialect that you use a lot in your music, how do you do it man?
Honesly, it is not me at all, it is the Lord working in me. God use me to deliver to the people with energy and a sound message and once again I am humbled by it.
How big is Gospel music in the UK, is it widely accepted or is there still room for growth?
Things are happening there but as you know, the Caribbean part of the music is not as big as here in the US, Canada and certainly Jamaica, but we’re trying to build it. I must thank guys like Spanna and Miller of Shekinah and His Majesty’s Sound systems for helping to keep the Caribbean Gospel music alive, but there is still room for growth.
Where is your music available for sale here in the US?
Anyone who wants to purchase my music can visit: www.truegracepromotions.com or send Brother Homa Morrison an email from that website and he’ll get you the album. I am also on Myspace at: www.myspace.com/kingarthurthe1st
