Psalmist/"Rhythm & Praise" Gospel Artist, Melody Barnes, is an anointed & multi-gifted singer, writer, actress, and speaker, bringing you a fresh new sound with a unique blend of Jazz, Soul, R & B, Funk, and Traditional Gospel ...For a Refreshing Brew of Both Classic & the Contemporary. Her musical inspirations are as varied as her musical taste, they include: Ella Fitzgerald, Mahalia Jackson, Tramaine Hawkins, Natalie Cole, Mary J. Blige, & Chaka Khan. These as well as others have helped to inspire & shape the soulful sound and style that is uniquely – Melody!
Melody Barnes, is one with a wealth of experience to draw from, having made her singing debut at the tender age of six during a live radio broadcast in her Detroit hometown. Growing up, she continued to sharpen her musical skills while singing in her local church choir. There, under the leadership and training of Music Director, Eddie Coleman, she began developing what would become her signature sound and style. She went on to join such notable gospel choirs as, The Voices of Deliverance - under the direction of the late Rev. Donald Vails, The Eastern Michigan Gospel Choir - under the direction of Staffy Butler, and The Voices of Unity - under the direction of Gospel Stellar Award winner, Deitrick Haddon. Most recently, Melody has served in Washington, DC area churches as Praise & Worship leader and as Minister of Music.
As a soloist, she has ministered before and shared the stage with such well-known Gospel and Contemporary Christian artists as Gary Oliver, The Winans, Angelo & Veronica, Donnie McClurkin, Isaiah Thomas, Byron Cage, Maurette Brown, and a host of others. Also, no stranger to the acting stage, Melody has sang and performed in several successful Gospel Musical productions, which included appearances at Washington, DC's historic Lincoln Theater and Maryland's celebrated Publick Playhouse.
The "Motown" native not only has an inborn passion for music, but also a re-born passion for souls! As a sought after Psalmist and Worship Leader, she is very active in outreach ministry as well as ministering frequently at various conferences and churches throughout the United States. However, her goal is to take her music and message around the globe! Melody Barnes definitely knows the reason why she sings... "I know that a major portion of my assignment on earth is to bring the message of Christ's love, hope, and power to save, set free, & deliver to the world... to the churched and un-churched alike. I will take the "Good News" message to any and everyone that will hear! ... I am not only called to go, but to carry the anointing for worship, praise, psalms, hymns, & spiritual songs in music styles and genres that can be received by all." Her songs come from out of her personal testimony, trials, and triumphs... A candid reflection of a continual journey with Christ – one that she plans to share with the world!
Melody, serves as Songwriter and Co-Producer on her new debut CD release, “The Reason.” The project also features music production from Sam Kendrick, of the Stellar Award nominated group, "7 Sons of Soul” and international Producer, Steve "Keyz" Ebhodaghe.
